2022
west pride
This project traces the shifting landscape of the queer scene in Gothenburg, using archival fragments as a starting point for imagining what once was and what could briefly return. Rooted in historical research, personal accounts and community memory, the work explores how queer spaces emerge, transform and disappear – and how their absence continues to shape the city's cultural fabric.
In the concept, a series of shut-down queer clubs across Gothenburg reopen for a single evening during West Pride 2022. These resurrected venues host local LGBTQIA+ artists, creating a temporary constellation of spaces that honour the past while celebrating contemporary queer expression. The Project becomes a way of acknowledging the clubs that once offered safety, joy and resistance, and of imagining how their spirit might be activated again. By weaving together archival material with speculative reconstruction, the work highlights the fragility and resilience of queer nightlife.
