activating statues
This project begins with sculpture parks – not just as sites of public art, but as living environments shaped by the people who move through them. I focused on two parks in particular, Skulpturparken in Bærums Verk and Skulptur i Pilane, both situated in landscapes marked by deep cultural and natural histories. These places draw visitors for many reasons: the sculptures themselves, the surrounding terrain and the quiet, lingering sense of sentiment that seems to settle in the air.
In the workshops, selected sculptures are "activated" by inviting visitors to engage with them through on-site artistic exercises. Participants respond to the works and their surroundings through drawing, writing, movement, or simple material explorations. By doing so, the sculptures shift from static objects into catalysts for shared experiences. The workshop becomes a way of slowing down, noticing and forming new connections. Connections between people and place, memory and material, the visible artwork and the invisible atmosphere that holds it.
